Coaching/Mentoring Initiative

CCAS Coaching/Mentoring Initiative (CMI)

The CCAS Coaching/Mentoring Initiative (CMI) began in 2022 with the goal of matching pediatric cardiac anesthesiology fellows with experienced pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists to aid their transition from fellowship to attending practice. Recognizing the many challenges inherent in the profession of pediatric cardiac anesthesiology, this program was developed based on CCAS’ desire to support fellows and junior faculty in developing professional networks and support systems.

Fellows and mentors are paired in September of the fellow’s fellowship year. Relationships may be renewed yearly if desired by both parties. Once paired, mentor/mentees (fellows) will work together to outline the mentee’s desired goals and how best to achieve them. Both mentor/coach and protégé may evaluate the relationship after the first three months to ensure that the match is successful for both parties.

This year we plan to expand the initiative to include attendings who are in the first 3 years post-fellowship. Please reach out to Dr. Laura Berenstain ([email protected]) with any questions about the program or if you are interested in participating as a protégé or mentor.
