Congenital Cardiac Anaesthesia Network
CCAN was founded in the early 2000’s as an informal collaborative group of NHS anaesthetists with a paediatric cardiac anaesthetic practice. Over the last twenty years the network has evolved considerably and now sees its roles and functions as follows –
- Organising an annual scientific meeting approximately every twelve to eighteen months
- Cross-institutional collaboration on audit and research projects
- Provision of a forum for pastoral care and support for one another
- Provide a forum for collaboration with fellow paediatric/congenital cardiac anaesthetists working in other healthcare systems outside the UK
- Provide a forum for collaboration with like-minded institutions and organisations providing care for patients with congenital heart disease
- Examination and development of the role that existing consultants have in providing training and mentoring for trainees with an interest in a career in paediatric cardiac anaesthesia
CCAN is now on the cusp of formalising its organisational structure including the appointment of officers.
