The purpose of the CCAS Latin America Special Interest Group (CCASLASIG) is to establish a close cultural, academic and technical network between Latin American leaders in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia and the Congenital Cardiac Anesthesia Society. In collaboration with ten leaders in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia throughout LA, we have created a consortium of Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiologist from eight different countries (Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay) with the common goal of identifying areas of quality improvement for anesthesia care of the patient with Congential Heart Disease (CHD).
Through international collaboration and cultural understanding of high priority medical needs in LA, we have designed the following objectives for CCASLASIG; a) Measure the human and physical resources available for the cardiac care of the pediatric patient in different countries in LA, b) Determine the cultural and economic barriers that prevent effective care of the patient with CHD in LA, c) Using adapted databases and data analytics, measure clinical outcomes after cardiac surgery in different countries in LA, d) Promote the networking and collaboration between LA countries with diverse levels of cardiac care development, e) Better understand the cultural and economic barriers faced by LA immigrant populations that seek complex cardiac care in the US and f) Establish mechanisms of continued medical education targeting the specific needs for LA programs.
